Step 1: Prepare Your Ledger Device
Unbox and Inspect
Open your Ledger wallet box and check for any tampering, ensuring the packaging and seal are intact for security.
Connect the Device
Use the supplied USB cable to connect your Ledger hardware wallet to your computer or mobile device. The device will power on automatically.
Step 2: Install Ledger Live
Download Ledger Live
Visit ledger.com/start to download the Ledger Live software for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android.
Install & Launch
Install Ledger Live on your device and open the app. Follow the on-screen prompts to begin the setup process.
Step 3: Initialize Your Ledger Wallet
Set Up as New or Restore
Choose whether to set up a new device or restore from an existing recovery phrase. For a new wallet, proceed with device initialization.
Create Your PIN Code
Use the Ledger device buttons to select a secure 4-8 digit PIN code that guards access to your device.
Generate Your Recovery Phrase
Your Ledger will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. Write the words down carefully on the supplied recovery sheet, and keep it offline and secure. This phrase is your only backup!
Step 4: Verify and Update
Confirm Recovery Phrase
Ledger will ask you to confirm some words from your recovery phrase to ensure it was written correctly.
Firmware Updates
Ledger Live will check for and prompt you to install the latest firmware updates for security and new features.
Step 5: Install Crypto Apps
Ledger wallet supports multiple cryptocurrencies through apps installed on your device via Ledger Live. Install apps for coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others you want to manage.
Step 6: Manage Your Assets
Add Accounts
Within Ledger Live, add accounts corresponding to your installed crypto apps. Your wallet will synchronize and show balances.
Send & Receive
Generate receive addresses to receive funds and use Ledger Live to send crypto safely. Confirm all transaction details on your Ledger device before approval.
Important Security Tips
- Never share your recovery phrase. Ledger support will never ask for it.
- Always verify your recovery phrase offline.
- Store backups securely in offline locations (metal backup recommended).
- Keep Ledger Live and your device firmware updated regularly.
